Bhubaneswar Circle

Bhubaneswar Circle was established in April, 1985 and is responsible for looking after the 78 monuments of national importance spreading in 30 districts of Orissa including one World heritage monument viz. the Sun temple at Konark. The monuments and sites under its jurisdiction are varied in nature. They include pre-historic sites, proto historic sites, forts and fortifications, epigraphically records; rock cut architectures, Buddhist monuments/sites, tanks, temples, ancient bridges etc. The circle is conserving and managing the monuments and sites through its five sub-circles viz. Konark, Puri, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Dhenkanal and two site offices at Boudh and Udayagiri.

Kolkata Circle

Kolkata circle was trifurcated and separated from the then Eastern Circle in 1984 encompasses the area of present state of West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Kolkata Circle looks after 136 monuments of national importance for the conservation and day to day upkeep through its seven sub-circles located at Geyzing (Sikkim), Coach Behar, Kalna, Malda, Murshidabad and Bishnupur for effective administration, maintenance, to undertake special repairs and to keep a watch on encroachments & illegal constructions within the prohibited and regulated areas.

Patna Circle

Patna Circle is one of the oldest circles of ASI which was earlier known as Mid Eastern Circle and still as earlier the Buddhist circle ostensibly because of the important Buddhist monuments lying in it’s area. It looks after 70 monuments of the state of Bihar.

Guwahati Circle

Guwahati circle was established in February, 1983 after bifurcating from Calcutta circle and it is playing a greater role in preservation, protection of 70 ancient monuments and archaeological sites of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

Ranchi Circle

Ranchi Circle was bifurcated from Patna Circle in 2003. Before creation of Ranchi circle, it was a sub circle under Patna Circle. It looks after 13 monuments of national importance of the state of Jharkhand.

Aizawl Circle

Aizawl circle is the newest circle of Archaeological Survey of India which was bifurcated from Guwahati circle in 2016. Vangchhia is the only protected site in Mizoram where 170 memoirs have been protected by the ASI in 2015. The recent discovery of a historical site at Vangchhia village in Champhai district of Mizoram has revealed the existence of an ancient lost civilization state. The remains of the civilization, discovered by Archaeological Survey of India date back 600 BCE. It looks after 1 monument of Mizoram, 1 monument of Manipur and 8 monuments of Tripura.

Raiganj Circle

Raiganj circle has been created on 27/08/2020 after bifurcation of Kolkata circle. It will look after the conservation and preservation work of the centrally protected monument situated in the north part of West Bengal consists of Coach Behar, Darjeeling, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Sikkim.
